Idalie de Cartier
b. Arendonk, Belgium, 1995
I am a self-taught artist living and working in Belgium. I create semi-natural constructions to place them indoors with the aim of re-invigorating spaces by filling them with nature’s beauty. My current focus is to recreate trees and their immediate surroundings.
My drive is to bring back nature to the daily lives of people and our everyday spaces. There tends to be a stark contrast between the urban, frantic, indoors-world commonplace in cities and the wealth of balance and peace that is found in the middle of nature. My constructions directly borrow from nature’s beauty by taking trees, branches and other natural elements discarded by the forestry industry as the core material basis.

I received my MSc in Premium Design from the Politecnico di Milano and the International University of Monaco (2020). I have learned the craft of giving a new life to trees from the maître Hervé Mayon, who has lead this craft for decades in France and in Europe. I spent a year as his apprenti in Allain, France, before opening my own atelier in Belgium.
